J'etais la !!!AFRICANDO
Mercredi 26. royal Festival Hall. 1ere surprise le public… ecclectique… moi qui pensait ne voir que des salseros et des africains… Les anglais sont venus en masse. Toute generation, toute ethnie confondues. IMPRESSIONNANT !!!
Accueil par l’organisateur du festival. Un caratere… 10% des recettes de tous les spectacles du festival sont versees a VSO, une organisation qui mene des actions humanitaires en Afrique. Une collecte est aussi organisee a la fin du spectacle : « Donner de l’argent…pas des centimes mais de beaux billets. Faites le donc pour que qd j’arrive au paradis, je puisse dire au Bon Dieu les bonnes actions que j’ai realises ». Ensuite, on a eu droit aux blagues sur les problemes de visa pour faire venir les artistes. C’est partout pareil ! .
Et puis enfin : ouverture de programme.
1ere partie: Claude Deppa. Trompetiste. Afrique du Sud (arrive a Londres a l’age de 17ans en 1974).
Ambiance jazzy… avec 2 chanteuses/danseuses qui ont volees les 3 premiers morceaux. Je ne pouvais pas detacher mes yeux d’elles, comme tout le public d’ailleurs. Les costumes de tissues africains, l'une en rouge, l’autre en vert. Les dehanchements, la choregraphie. ET C’EST DU JAZZ. Et ca collait merveilleusement bien. Et puis elles avaient aussi des voix agreables qui se mariaient tres bien Apres elles sont parties. Et j’ai commence a ecoute la musique. Un ensemble de 9 musiciens. Bon muzik! Le public applaudit depuis le 1er morceau et chaleureusement. Moi, qui etais venue pour de la Salsa, je me retrouve avec du jazz en premiere partie… Excellente idee pour faire decouvrir un artiste et un style a des gens qui a l’origine ne seraient pas venus pour ca.

Claude Deppa arrived in the UK at 17 to study music, began his professional career with the Dave Holdsworth Quartet and made his first festival debut with Johnny Dyani's Group. Since then he has been enjoying a colourful career performing and recording with the likes of Miriam Makeba, Dudu Pukwana, Chris McGregor, Louis Moholo, The Township Express, Julian Bahula, Art Blakey, Archie Shepp, Dewey Redman, Evan Parker, Carla Bley, Harry Beckett, Andy Shepperd's In Co-Motion and Soft On The Inside, Hermeto Pascoal's Big Band, Courtney Pine, Steve Williamson, Brice Wassy, Jazz Jamaica, Brian Abraham's' District Six, Clifford Jarvis' Jazz Prophets, Tony Haynes and the Grand Union Orchestra, Wolfgang Pushnig's Alpine Aspects, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, and many other groups.
After many years as the trumpeter of choice for illustrious bandleaders he has decided to lead and write music for his own two distinctive groups to showcase his twin career in avant-garde and African music.

Au bout du 3eme morceau, un couple s’est leve pour danser. En 2 min, toute place libre devant le podium etait remplie… An pa rete assise !!! Et je me suis meme trouvee un cavalier !!! . Salsa ka tombe… En francais, espagnol et (… je sais pas les autres langues).
La piste a vraiment pris feu, la salle aussi… Meme les gens qui ne savaient pas danser, dansaient. 2h d’ambiance non stop ! 15 pieces, en live J'ai bu du petit lait
Seul regret : Quand quelqu’un a reclame : « aicha » ils ont repondu : "Aicha est divorcee maintenant » donc pas de Aicha !

Hé non, ce n'est un un groupe du Cap-Vert ou d'Angola. Les Africando sont Sénégalais 100% thieboudjen! Africando est la rencontre des quatre meilleurs salseros et précurseurs de la musique afro-cubaine en Afrique de l'Ouest.
Ces musiciens d'ethnies différentes ont pour noms Pape SECK, Médoune Diallo, Nicolas Menheim, tous du Sénégal et Boncana MAIGA du Mali.
Dans les années 60 et 70, la musique Salsa et la Rumba étaient les genres les plus prisés au Sénégal et en Afrique d'une façon générale. Dans leurs chansons, les musiciens africains de l'époque se faisaient un point d'honneur d'utiliser la langue espagnole avec plus ou moins de bonheur. Ainsi se posaient-ils comme trait d'union entre leurs frères déportés en Amérique et dans les Caraïbes d'une part et ceux du continent africain d'autre part.
Le quatrième personnage du groupe, le Malien Boncana MAIGA, ne se présente plus. Cet arrangeur hors-pair avait effectué un séjour de 9 ans à Cuba et était sorti major de sa promotion. Le rôle qu'il a joué dans les arrangements est prépondérant en raison de sa parfaite maîtrise des rythmes cubains et africains. Dès lors, il n'est pas étonnant qu'il ait effectué les arrangements d'Aïcha KONE, Kassé MADY, Amy KOITA, Mahawa DOUMBIA, Alpha Blondy, etc...
Il faut également noter que MAIGA avait formé l'orchestre "Las Maravillas du Mali" avec 5 autres étudiants de sa promotion. Le plus grand tube qu'ils firent à l'époque fut "Chez Fatimata".
Pape SECK est chanteur, saxophoniste et flûtiste.
Il entama sa carrière musicale avec le Star Band de Saint-Louis en 1962 où il composa le tube "LAKH BI". En 1982, les autorités sénégalaises décidèrent de monter un orchestre national et en confièrent la mission à Pape SECK qui quitta le "Number one", le deuxième groupe qu'il quitta.
Nicolas Menheim est originaire de Fatick, dans le Siné-Saloum, près de Kaolack. En 1973, il forma le "Jung-Jung" de Fatick, soutenu par la municipalité.

Et c’etait tellement bien que je suis retournee Samedi soir pour le concert de gospel par une chorale d’Afrique du Sud.
Pareil pour le public: melange, chaleureux, applaudissant depuis la 1ere minute
En 1ere partie : encore une bonne idee, le groupe Kekele (congolais, je crois) qui joue de la musique africaine actuelle. Et encore une agreable decouverte .
Et ensuite, on est reste pour le concert de cloture. GRATUIT dans le hall. Seul hic: qd on a cherche un endroit pour manger a minuit, y'avait plus rien d'ouvert dans le quatier, ni au centre de Londres
Vivement la 3eme edition… Et la j'irais voir plus de concerts ... dans la mesure de ma bourse.
