| Citation: | The first Images of Black Women film featival takes place from the 4th to the 6th of March 2005 at the Tricycle Theatre, 269 Kilburn High Road NW6.
The brainchild of Betty Sulty-Johnson and Sylviane Rano, two African Caribbean women driven by their passion for cinema and the desire to create a niche within the industry for films created by, or featuring African Caribbean women from across the globe, Images of Black Women Film Festival aims to increase people's knowledge of black women's roles in cinema, and to raise the profile of African Caribbean women in front of the camera and behind the lens.
In association with Focus West, a project aimed to support the development of inner West London's existing media cluster, the festival will feature films from the UK, Canada, the US and Senegal, as well as a powerful documentary on the experiences of African American filmmakers. There will also be a short film competition, celebrity Q&A, and a talk with the most influential Black Women filmmakers in Europe - including the festival's international patron Euzhan Palcy (award-wimming director of Black Shack Alley and A Dry White Season), and the festival's UK patron Amma Asante, the BAFTA nomiated rising star who recently won the Times Breakthrough Artist of the Year for her first feature film A Way of Life.
Images of Black Women Film Festival wamts to encourage more African Caribbean women to enter and sustain a presence in the film industry where ther are very few women from minority groups.

Images of Black Women in association with Focus West is proud to announce the first international Black Women Film Festival in London. The event will take place during International Women's month 04 - 06 of March at the Tricycle Cinema. The prizes on offer are:
• Focus West Best Short Film Award to target filmmakers from West London
• International Best Short Film Award to support filmmakers from UK, Europe and overseas.
These competitions are open to all, no regards to race and gender as long as films contain elements of African-Caribbean culture on screen (actors or documentary subjects) and/or behind the camera (director, screenwriter, and producer).

L'idée de ce festival est intéressante et à developper ailleurs, ici par exemple. La famille Elysée devrait peut-être songer à s'y mettre  |

La superbe Mati arpente les rues et le marché de Dakar en poussant sa brouette, d'où son surnom, chargée de divers biens de consommation courante qu'elle vend pour pouvoir offrir une vie moins difficile à sa petite fille. Divorcée, elle ne peut, en effet, compter que sur elle-même et sur son courage. Travailler ne lui fait pas peur et son désir le plus cher est d'ouvrir avec une amie, elle aussi rescapée d'un mariage violent, une gargote au bord de l'Océan. Mais quand l'amour, en la personne de Naado, refait surface, Mati se surprend à rêver de nouveau et à conjuguer le bonheur au présent… Madame Brouette est une éternelle romantique ! |

A WAY OF LIFE. Amma Asante. Grande-Bretagne. Avec: Stephanie James, Nathan Jones, Gary Sheppeard, Dean Wong.
Tout tourne, dans ce film extrêmement dur, autour de Leigh-Anne, une jeune femme de dix-huit ans, qui vit avec sa fillette de dix mois et ses trois amis Robbie, Gavin et Stephen dans la marginalité d'une grande ville. Poussés inexorablement vers un avenir sans issue, condamnés à la frustration et à la rage qui finissent par provoquer un violent crime racial sur un jeune voisin musulman.

| Citation: | Leigh-Anne (Stephanie James) is an 18-year-old single mother of a 10-month-old baby, living in a claustrophobic community in a docks area of South Wales. Struggling with the legacy of her own disruptive childhood, she finds herself trapped in a benefits system she cannot get to work in her favour, under the watchful eye of social services and her child's interfering paternal grandmother (Brenda Blethyn), and battling to provide her daughter with a safe and healthy upbringing. Under pressure and confused, and encouraged by a tight knit group of narrow minded friends, who serve as her extended family and who all have issues and confusions of their own to come to terms with, she expresses her frustration with ignorant, racist rants against a Muslim neighbour. As she becomes more insecure and fearful for her daughter's future, the neighbour becomes more of a focus for her anger. Aided by a young cast who deliver frighteningly convincing performances, first time director Amma Asante offers a daring, complex attempt to explore the roots of and reasons for racism, in a film that delivers no easy answers or excuses for such attitudes.

Voila, j'etais la et vraiment c'etait au top !!! 
J'ai vu en fait les 3 films du vendredi-samedi  puis assite aux questions-reponses. Et puis pour les discussions, c'etait complet  qd j'ai voulu acheter les tickets mais on m'a dit que c'etait aussi tres tres tres interessant.
Une excellente idee. L'annee prochaine, je rempile. |

Des films venant des Usa, Canada, Haiti, Burkina faso. Et un documentaire sur les femmes antillaises.
Et aussi des ateliers pour les apprenti-cineastres: utilisation de la camera, obtenir des fonds etc.
Et une apres-midi pour les enfants avec projection d'un film d'animation. |

C'etait un week-end formidable!
Un gros en particulier pour le reportage "women west indies" qui presente 30 femmes, chacune pendant 10-12 min racontant leurs realisations. Des femmes quelques fois inconnues. On en a projete 5: Heather DORAM d'Antigua (directeur de la culture et artiste internationale) - Marie Line Dahomey de la Guadeloupe (Leader de Kalindika, musique traditionelle) - Emeline MICHEL d'Haiti (chanteuse- elle a chante en martinique avec le chant des sirenes de Ronald rubinel) - Beverley MANLEY de la Jamaique (femme du 1er ministre - journaliste - ecrivain) et Carole JULLIARD de la Martinique (technicienne de meteo france qui est partie 1 an travailler au pole sud).
Des femmes 'doubout', femmes d'inspiration, femmes modeles, femmes combattantes ...
C'est une serie de reportages pour la tele, qui est deja passe sur RFO et d'autres teles a la jamaique, antigua etc. A suivre et a ne pas rater. Il me tarde de voir les 30 portraits!
